The Back and Mouth Connection
Monday, November 3rd, 2008One of my stated goals is to carry on behaving physically as if I’m 25, whereas my ‘real” age is more than twice that.
Over the years I’ve tried many different diet and exercise regimes in attempts to achieve that goal.
On the plus side, I’ve got the definite benefit of good genes passed down from my Mother’s side, because she’s 78 and still very active (although unfortunately she’s a smoker).
Her good genes are counterbalanced by those from my Father, who died fairly young and had several serious illnesses before that.
So what is my point and how am I going against my goal?
Well my view is my body and back clocks seem to have gone into reverse the last few years, meaning things seem to be getting better not worse.
There’s pretty much nothing I can’t do physically, be it cycling 50 miles or climbing an 8 metre tree in the backyard to trim it. I’ve not missed a day off work for “sickness” for as long as I can remember. My last absence was down to a back injury from a fall a few years ago.
How can this be so is the more interesting question?
As it says in the title of this post, for me at least the “The Back and Mouth Conection” is becoming clearer and clearer over time.
I’ve had the benefit of being a healthy eater for many years now. In recent times, I’ve taken this further by becoming more and more stringent about what I eat, in the sense of what does it contain and how was it produced e.g. was it organically or factory farmed?
We’ve also started growing more of our own food and also have a few chickens in the back yard. Domestic chemicals are more or less banned from our house also, with the exception of paints and the like.
Each time I push to a new level of diet quality, I notice a surge in my energy levels and overall feeling of wellbeing.
My theory is that the less toxins we put into our bodies, the more energy and ability our bodies have to stay healthy and fight sickness and injury before they really take hold. This includes delaying the impacts of the ageing process.
To me this theory is proven because I almost never get sick
Obviously, injuries to your back from accidents, vehicle crashes etc create a different set of circumstances. However, i suggest that even then the healing process is greatly enhanced by a focus on your overall wellbeing, healthy eating and minimizing exposure to toxic chemicals.
There are many sources that argue this same proposition. As an illustration, many alternative cancer treatments basically consist of a diet of freshly juiced natural foods, combined with rest, fresh air and exercise.
So if you combine a healthy diet with exercises such as yoga, plus specific back exercises such as those in the Better Back System you’re on your way to a new healthy world.
