The issue here is how being overweight is connected with sciatica and how being overweight affects your back. In terms of the structure and function of your spine, it's a finely balanced system of bones (vertebrae), joints, mucles, ligaments and so on.

Clearly, if you are carrying a significant amount of extra weight it's likely that will throw your back out of the balance it's designed with.
