"Maybe it will go away"

Those are the worst words you can say about siatica or any discomfort in your body. And men tend to be the worst offenders, because they notice changes in their bodies less than women and when they do notice something, they chose to ignore it, because they hope "maybe it will go away."

How Chiropractors Treat Sciatica

Chiropractors regard your spine as the major influence on your overall health, because all the organs in your body depend upon the spinal cord (nerve) for the transmission of vital messages relayed backwards and forwards between your organs and your brain.

If your spine is injured or misaligned, this interferes with the transmission of these messages.

Chiropractors diagnose spine and joint problems with the help of X-rays. They are also able to detect various conditions of your spine, including the surrounding muscles with their hands. Chiropractic treatment is based upon ensuring your spine is in correct alignment so that it can function correctly.

Chiropractors use mobilizations and manipulations to generate spinal movements, sometimes known as “cracking” the back, that put your spine back into place.

Most chiropractic treatments help with relief of acute low back pain and address the condition that caused your pain in the first place. Besides in-office treatment, many chiropractors provide exercise and preventative strategies for follow up.

I have the most personal experience with chiropractors and I have used one for many years and the treatment works for me. If you have a favourite type of specialist or treatment that helps you look after your back and works for you - that's great too. Keep using them!

Remember we're looking what works to stop sciatica back pain. It doesn't matter what it is as long as it works for you.

A key point though is that since I learnt how to look after my back and started to strengthen it, the siatica and lower back pain rarely get in the way (unless I do something really stupid).

Now I need to visit the chiropractor much less often - on a monthly schedule, whereas before it was sometimes only a few days between treatments. What's more important to me is that my back feels good and I can do what I want most of the time.

 

Do Chiropractors Really Work

With any medical treatment, to get the full benefit you must educate yourself and decide for yourself if the treatment is giving you benefit and if it ongoingly works for you.

Now, I have found a chiropractor who definitely helps me. On the other hand, I have also come across others where I was clearly just a number and they were only interested in patient numbers, throughput and their $ turnover.

There are even people who say that the whole chiropractic profession is a hoax and the practitioners are basically charlatans and the treatment is pointless and even harmful. 

On the other hand, there are also clearly major deficiencies and pitfalls in the mainstream medical/pharmaceutical industry. Death and injury from medical accident or misadventure is a significant risk.

Personally, my major complaint about the mainstream medical/pharmaceutical industry is that the primary focus is on fixing you up once you are sick (because that is where the bulk of the profits are). In contrast, your best route to health is to stay well by proactively taking care of your own wellbeing.

It is essential  for your health and wellbeing that you take responsibility and come to your own conclusions with whatever treatment you decide upon.

So do chiropractors work? My personal view is Yes in conjunction with an exercise program to loosen and develop the muscles that support your back. 

Remember: Its up to you to decide what works for you - that's what counts.

Does Back Surgery Work?
